In March of 2004, a close friend and I were trying on bathing suits for her destination wedding in Hawaii. When I looked into the mirror and saw a developing gut and love handles staring back at me. For the first time in my life I did not feel comfortable in my own skin. I did not think about the food I ate or the way I looked until this moment in my life. I used to eat on the go and eat whatever I felt like eating. Pizza, hamburger, greasy French fries, and Chinese food. Before I saw myself in the bathing suit in the mirror, the size of my jeans had gradually increased without my noticing.
So the wedding came and I lost the weight in the nick of time!! It was then that I became intrigued about weight loss and exercise and I saw my body transforming but then I hit a wall and lost motivation. Although I was eating better and taking better care of myself, I became complacent. It was then that a friend of mine dared me to enter a fitness competition. Being a competitive person, I could not back down against a challenge so I did it and I placed. I decided to do a few more and did well in those but more importantly, I saw how much me stepping on stage being fit and active was an inspiration to others. The rush of knowing that I had accidentally become a motivator filled me in a way I never expected.
Along my transition I became more organic and holistic in my approach to changing my life. In doing so I decided to go back to school to become a Mind/Body Wellness practitioner with a focus on holistic nutrition and hypnotherapy. I believe that in order to be complete it is important to make sure that you are connected in all aspects of mind, body and spirit.
With that said my joy and contentment comes from being able to help others along their journeys to finding the importance of their well-being in all aspects. My job is to coach people on how to lead a healthy life of wellness and prosperity.
